The work of the gospel in Kiltarlity Free Church requires financial support. Financial support should not be seen as a cold duty, a guilt trip or a necessary evil, but rather is to be done with a spirit of thanksgiving for the fact that all we have been given is from Christ.
2 Corinthians 9:7: “Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
Why do we ask people to support the Gospel ministry in Kiltarlity Free Church with their givings?
It is a scriptural command: In the Old Testament, the people of God were asked to give a tenth (tithe) of their income (Malachi 3:10). In the New Testament, the guidance is more general. Give sacrificially (Luke 21:4), according to income (Acts 11:29), cheerfully (2 Cor 9:7), regularly (1 Cor 16:2) and generously (Rom 12:8).
God is no man’s debtor, and as we give for His work, it encourages us to focus on spiritual realities, and fosters a deeper faith in God to provide for all our needs. It is always more blessed to give than to receive.
The work in Kiltarlity Free Church (and the wider church) costs money. You have the privilege of having a full-time minister. The congregation pays and provides accommodation for him. The church building and manse have to be well maintained. The church itself will continue to need considerable money spent on it in the foreseeable future.
The outreach work also costs money. Resources and new equipment needs to be bought. Then we have ongoing administrative costs, development work and other unseen costs that arise. We support mission work at home and abroad, and are only limited by the amount of money that we take in.
We also belong to the Free Church of Scotland. Our contributions to central funds, apart from going towards to paying for local ministry, help towards paying for costs like Edinburgh Theological Seminary, church administration, and mission work.
We like to encourage regular giving. It is an important discipline in your Christian life, and it is very helpful to the regular work of the congregation. Our Treasurer Agnes Urquhart (treasurer@kiltarlityfreechurch.org) will be happy to give you details to set up a standing order.
If you are a taxpayer, your contribution can be increased by almost a quarter if you join the Government’s Gift Aid Scheme. As long as the taxman can identify how much you have contributed, he will return a percentage of your tax to the church because it is a charitable organisation.
We do not expect people to give so much that they neglect to provided for their families and get into debt. We ask people to give accordingly to their means.
As an alternative to setting up a standing order you can donate to the work of Kiltarlity Free Church via give.net or paypal using the links below.
