What do we believe?

At Kiltarlity Free Church, all that we do is guided by the Bible and our love for Jesus, as we all seek to become more like him each day. The Bible is our highest authority and in it we find out about who God is (Father, Son & Holy Spirit), who we are, and the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We believe that trusting in Jesus for forgiveness, for all the wrong things that we say and do, is the only way back to God and the only way to have fullness in this life and in eternity.

With that in mind, our times together are centred around finding out more about who Jesus is through the Bible, how we can follow him and become more like him. We seek to apply the timeless truths of Jesus to our contemporary world. Following Jesus should impact every area of our lives as Christians as we seek to give Him His rightful place as Lord of all, whether this be at home, at school, or at work.

As Christians we also believe in the power of prayer, speaking to God each day, depending on him, thanking him for his grace and mercy in sending Jesus, praying for those in need; in our families, our congregation or around the world. We believe that God answers prayers and keeps his promises. If you have any requests for prayer these can be submitted to prayer@kiltarlityfreechurch.org or by putting them in the prayer box at the Kiltarlity Post Office.

We are also committed to Mission as a church – Jesus commanded his church to ‘go and make disciples of all nations’ (Matthew 28:19). We work in our local area to reach out and encourage people to find out more about Jesus. We regularly hear from those involved in mission, both at home and abroad and we seek to support their work through prayer and finances. You can find out more about those we currently support here.

We are also a congregation of the Free Church of Scotland. Ministers and elders of the Free Church subscribe to the Westminster Confession of Faith. Members of the Church are not required to subscribe to the Westminster Confession but simply to profess their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Free Church of Scotland recognises two sacraments, Communion and Baptism. We celebrate communion once per month.

We offer baptism of infants and of adult believers not already baptised. We do not believe the act of baptizing our children saves them – that still requires personal faith – but we do it committing our children to God and trusting him to rescue them in accordance with his covenant promises (Acts 2:37-41; 1 Corinthians 10:1-4).

We understand that not all Christians accept infant baptism and we joyfully welcome all Christians into membership with us without any expectation that they assent to all the beliefs required of ministers and elders. More information on church membership is available here.

If you would like to come along to Kiltarlity Free Church to find out more about who Jesus is, what the Bible says, or just to speak to us in person then you are more than welcome. You can find information about our Sunday services here.
